What is Portfolio Guzzler?

SRC's Portfolio Guzzler drive time engine accurately retrieves customer demographics within a specified drive time because road network integrity is built into the system. Most drive time products create polygons that deviate from real road networks, arbitrarily cutting through neighborhoods including areas not drivable, which significantly alter the resulting demographics.

How does Portfolio Guzzler work?

Portfolio Guzzler follows drivable road segments by going outward from a point towards the nearest intersection in all drivable directions. As it reaches each new intersection, the system keeps track of the amount of driving time remaining. A buffer is then added to each road segment based on the off road speed and the time remaining to capture the majority population that lives within a very small distance to the road (driveways, parking lots, etc.).

What makes Portfolio Guzzler more accurate than other drive time engines? 1) Portfolio Guzzler follows the road network exclusively, the other engines use grids that cut arbitrarily through barriers capturing the wrong neighborhoods or missing them altogether; 2) Portfolio Guzzler buffers roads using the time in minutes left to drive and the off road speed. More households will be captured in a neighborhood as the time remaining to drive increases.
